Buenos Aires is the vibrant, dynamic capital of Argentina, and the city enjoys a romantic reputation for flamboyance, a rich and diverse culture, with a distinctly European flavour.

Summers in Buenos Aires are hot and steamy, while winter nights can be icy. A major port, there are regular ferry services across the estuary of the Rio de la Plata to neighbouring Uruguay.

The nearby Reserva Ecologica Costanera Sur is an extensive wetland right in the heart of Buenos Aires. If water levels are high this reserve can teem with waterbirds, including lake duck, silver teal, coscoroba and black-necked swans, red-fronted and red-gartered coots, southern screamer and cocoi heron. A host of passerines may also be seen here, while a variety of raptors, including Harris's hawk and southern crested caracara, patrol the lagoons.
