Surrounded by over 3,000 hectares of private land, Pousada Araras Eco Lodge offers guests rustic, but sophisticated accommodation. With a tremendous variety of wildlife, it is especially good for birders.

Built in local style in total harmony with the environment, the lodge offes a homely atmosphere. The 19 rooms have air conditioning, insect-screened windows, ceiling fan and en suite bathroom, and facilities include a swimming pool with an adjoining covered area for meals, and large verandahs furnished with hammocks.

The lodge offers first-class birdwatching, trekking in pristine forest, canoeing, horse riding, photo-safaris on a truck and night excursions - all with the assistance of expert bilingual naturalist guides. You can see various birds, including hyacinth macaws, from the forest boardwalk, while two towers of 12 and 25 metres height offer views of the flooded wetlands and grassland from high above the trees - perfect for birders. Tapir, marmoset, agouti, opossum and howler monkey are just some of the many animals seen regularly, and capybaras regularly wander through the dining area!

Open all year round, the lodge lies 130 kilometres south of Cuiabá, just off the unsurfaced Transpantaneira Highway.
